The Weight of the Nation
12 inches x 16 inches on canvas
Mixed media with collage
This is one of the few pieces in the collection that I did with the canvas intentionally in “portrait” mode. Without planning, the shape of the collage elements turned out looking a bit like the shape of the United States and the random placement of the man near the bottom (about where Louisiana would be) ended up looking like he is being squished by the surrounding collage elements. Combined with the tense and divided political climate in the United States at the time this was made during 2021 I felt like “The Weight of the Nation” was an appropriate name for this piece.
