Urban Brandscape
30” x 40” canvas
Acrylic, spray paint, paint pen and stencil
In mid-2020 I began experimenting with spray paint and utilizing overlaid stencils of squares, rectangles and other geometric shapes to create depth in my work. I had previously used this approach when I was commissioned to create an 18 foot mural for the Forescout Technologies headquarter lobby (see the Gallery for more details on this commission) and was inspired by the “urban cubist” work of the artist Flore.
For this work I used a number of hand cut stencils in bold colors to create what looked to me like an abstract urban cityscape. I then used additional stencils and hand drew “signage”, an abstract representation of the billboards you’d see when entering into cities such as Manhattan or downtown San Francisco.
