Pink, Pink Used Ink
16 inches x 20 inches on canvas
Mixed media with collage, spray paint and stencil
Before I began working on this piece I turned the main lights off in my studio so I could use it as a dark room to add photo sensitive emulsion to my silkscreens in preparation for a new screen print I was making (the emulsion is light sensitive so you must apply it in a room that does not expose the screen to light). Yellow bug lights are ok - so I had a lamp with a few yellow light bulbs on in the studio.
This multitasking led to some interesting results - this piece has unintended combinations of pink, yellow and orange in it. What looked to be all complimentary pink elements of the collage under yellow light ended up being oranges and yellows which I would not have intentionally chosen to share the same canvas. Like so many other paintings I’ve done, these “mistakes” end up being my favorite elements of the piece.
