Impaired Vision
16 inches x 20 inches
Mixed media with collage, acrylic, paint pen, and spray paint
This piece carries forward the same look-and-feel as the rest of my “Heritage” collection but I wanted to incorporate the humor of a “CAUTION: ASIAN DRIVER” sticker I photographed at the Laguna Seca racetrack. I incorporated the “DANGER” tape weeks after I had completed the original piece.
The car with the sticker was owned by an Asian American who was poking fun at himself and at the popular stereotype — which reminded me of when I did the same thing in my early college years when I had a “CAUTION Oriental Driver” license plate frame on my car. While this is not politically correct in today’s more “woke” society I have always felt that using humor and making fun of oneself is one of the most effective ways to diffuse uncomfortable situations and stereotypes.
