Acrylic paint, spray paint and stencil

One of the most beautiful and defining qualities of the United States has always been its diverse composition of races, nationalities and ideals. This melting pot of cultures and ideals shine through in the way we think, the way we speak, the way we eat and certainly in the way we look.

However, there always have been factions throughout the U.S. with negative attitudes and views on race or ethnicity which has resulted in discriminatory laws, practices and actions (including violence) at various times in the history of the United States. The administration of our 45th President renewed this rhetoric in a big way by implementing many controversial programs and tactics such as a family separation policy for migrants, unilaterally denying citizens from several Muslim-majority countries entry into the U.S and demanding federal funding to build a border wall. Regardless of your political philosophy there is no denying that his strong stance strongly divided a country and escalated racial unrest to extremely dangerous levels.

This work looks to make a very straightforward and clear statement — that Americans come in all colors, shapes and sizes and whomever is looking into the mirror has as much right to pursue and live the American dream as the next one.

RISING SON EXHIBITION PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Have someone take a picture of your reflection in the mirror (it’s best at an angle so you don’t see the camera) and post it on social media and tag #risingsonSF !!
