Blue You Away
16 inches x 20 inches on canvas
Mixed media with collage, spray paint and stencil
This was the first piece made with a white background in my “Cut and Paste” series. I was inspired to try collage after watching a Masterclass with David Carson, a well known graphic designer who despite all of the advances in digital tools available today still believes in the art of traditional collage, often using typographic elements in his work that is referred to as “grunge typography”.
Made from analog, hand torn and glued abstract collage and mixed media (using spray paint, stencil acrylics, paint pens and oil sticks), this collection of abstract typographic pieces was designed with the intentional goal of paring down the number of varied elements and colors and utilized typography, graphical elements and negative space to create a strong initial visual impression.
